Great Smile

Great Smile

A lucky shot of  man looking at me at the park. I was walking at a Jaycee park in Troy Michigan and he smiled at me. I took my camera and point at him.

This shot was taken in the middle of the day and the light was so beautiful, the location was perfect for the day. There were lots of trees that made the location not so bright but enough for the light to get in, so it was perfect.

I like this shot because of his natural smile. His smile was not perfect, but he did not overdo it and thats what makes it so perfect. With that said, this shot was taken around 1:16 pm last July 21, 2012 with my new toy Nikon D90.

Freezy Night

Freezy Night
This images was taken around 11:30 pm after the snow storm. The trees has no leaves but full of snow. I used my Nikon D3000 with my 18-55 mm lens. The shutter speed for this was 1/200 sec with an aperture of 4.5, and an ISO speed of 1600. To get the maximum width of the image, I set my focal length to 18 mm. I also use my Nikon SB-600 flash.

I like this shot because the trees were covered with snow and ice and the night was so bright because of the bright moon and a clear sky. That night was really cold but it did not stop me from going out there and shoot. That big white dot on the sky was actually the moon that shined the whole place that it almost tempted me to drive around the area.

Note:

To get this shot, I used the flash to shine all the darker areas around the trees. If you have a better lens than what I have (which in this case, most of the lens are better that what I have), you can use it. I recommend that you use a prime lens which is 85mm or the 50mm lens.

Bird on a tree

This bird image was taken around 12:25 pm with my Nikon d3000 just right at my front porch. It was a very nice day when I saw this bird staring at me for minutes. With this shot, I used 55-200 mm lens with a max focal lenght. The ISO setting is around 400 and an aperture of 5.6 which is also a maximum for the this type of lens while the shutter speed of 1/160 sec. I did not use a flash on this one since it was taken in the middle of the day but using a flash will give an even nicer effect.

I like this shot because it is simple and I thought that the bird is a really looks gorgeous standing on a brance of a small tree. The redish orange belly really gave me the inspiration to have her picture taken.

Notes:

Taking a shot in the middle of the day really is the best time to take a picture (it is just hot which I really do not like it) especially if you do not want to use a flash. If you have your flash with you, do not hesitate to use it, even it is in the middle of the day. I made sure that I have less movements so that I won't scare the bird away and get a good shot.

Mickey Mouse Cactus

Mickey Mouse Cactus
This image was taken at the Belle Isle Park in Detroit. It was sitting along the corner of the walkway when I had this shot with my D3000 Nikon camera with the 55 - 200 mm zoom lens. It was also taken around 2:37 pm in a building with lights coming out from the roof glass.

I like the form of this cactus because it looks like a Mickey Mouse ears sitting on top of it. This inspired me to take a photo since my kids like Mickey Mouse and the color of it struck me when I pass by the corner.

Notes:
When taking this image with a bright background, make sure your flash is available. I just used flash setting it to a normal i/o and make sure the focus is where the the part of the subject is. To make the background a little blurry, play with the zoom of the lens until you are satisfied.

I cheat a little bit with the color (which most of the photographers do), I used an editing tool and played with the hue and the vibrance option so to make the red will become brighter and green a bit greener.  Do not over do it because it will look unnatural.

Pine Needles

Pine Needles
This pine needles were taken on spring. I faced upward since pine trees are so tall. I used my d3000 Nikon Camera with the 55 - 200 mm zoom lens. It was also taken around 7:30 pm with an exposure of 1/250 and a 5.6 aperture. The image was also taken without a flash showing a blurry background of the top portion of the tree.

This image inspired me to take a photo of it because I like the fresh coloring of these needles.

Notes:
When taking this type of image without flash, make sure that the subject is well lit or at least sunlight is present. If the subject is in darker area, you might need a camera stand to hold still or else the image will become blurry. You can hold it with your hand however you have to be motionless (if you have that kind of ability) in order to get the best result.
